A Good Read

Need one? I can recommend a few! I recently read The Help and LOVED it. It was a page turner. Set in the early 1960s, it tells the story of white woman and the black maids who help raise them.
Another good book is The Middle Place. It's a memoir about life in "the middle place"...you know, that place when you have children, but still have parents. You are a mother, but still need some mothering yourself. Also a quick read, and one I could not put down.
Right now I'm reading Shutter Island. I'm not very far along, but it is pretty good. It's about to come out as a movie and I wanted to read it first. The author, Dennis Lehane, also wrote Mystic River which I never read because I saw the movie first. The movie was great, but I bet the book was better. For some reason, I can't motivate myself to read the book since I've seen the movie. I'm not letting that happen again!
Happy Friday!

The Sweater Coat

So this is my FAVORITE sweater. Why? Because almost every time I wear it, someone asks where I bought it and I can reply "I made it!" It looks like it is much more complicated than it really is. Just follow the chart. If you know how to do a cable, you can make this sweater. REALLY! The pattern is Sylvi by Mari Muinonen and can be found on twist collective.

The only thing I would do differently is the sleeve. As you can see, it's a bit too long. To be fair, the picture of the sweater on the pattern has a long sleeve also, so I should have known. I just find it annoyingly long when I wear it. If I were to make it again (which is no fun, in my opinion) I would shorten the sleeves by one inch.
Other than that, the sweater is perfect!
